Curly Dadan’s Bounty at 7,800,000 Berries

Curly Dadan leads a gang of mountain bandits on Mt. Corvo, a standing marginal enough that no major documented feat of arms is attached to her name, and yet real enough to justify a still-active bounty of seven million eight hundred thousand berries, decades after whatever first earned it.

What the file leaves out is the blackmail that put her, against her will, in charge of raising three boys: Garp threatens to expose her gang's crimes unless she takes in Ace, then Luffy, and later Sabo, a runaway from his own kingdom. She refuses out loud, complies in practice, drinks and grumbles about children she insists to this day she never wanted, while feeding them every night for years on end.

The strangest part isn't that she has a bounty at all, it's that decades later, she's still following the exploits of the boys she raised in whatever news reaches her mountain, up through the most recent reports out of Egghead and Hachinosu, without ever having left, and without her own file growing by a single berry in all that time. She weeps on learning of Ace's death at Marineford, the same night the whole world learns her former charge was the son of Gol D. Roger. Three children became names the world either fears or celebrates; the woman who fed them is still priced like an ordinary local gang leader, never revised.
