Gin’s WANTED poster with a reward of 12 million Berries.

Twenty-five years separate Gin's only two confirmed appearances. The first, at the Baratie: thrown out penniless by the waiter Patty, he's given a free meal by Sanji — the first act of kindness in his entire life, by his own account — before taking Zeff hostage to free his captain, Don Krieg, and fighting the same Sanji without ever finishing him off, out of respect. The episode still ends badly for him: Krieg, out of options, gasses his own fleet with MH5 poison to force a surrender, and Gin goes down along with the crew he'd just served loyally. The second appearance doesn't arrive until chapter 1117, on Hachinosu, where Gin turns out to be very much alive, resurfacing alongside that same Krieg and Pearl during Dr. Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast — a transmission cut off before it reaches its most anticipated subject, interrupted by Warcury's assault on the Iron Giant.
Between those two scenes, his bounty never moved: 12 million berries, set back when the Grand Line was still unfamiliar territory to him, at a time when Krieg himself commanded an entire armada of forty-one ships. Gin never led that fleet; he only served it, as combat commander, until Mihawk wiped it out completely before the Baratie arc even began.
What his file ultimately holds onto, across a twenty-five-year real-world gap between the two scenes, is a free meal rather than a feat of arms, or even his own captain's poison gas — the one act of his career the story chose to let outlast everything else.
