Gem’s Bounty at 10,000,000 Berries

Gem once dreamed of becoming a firefighter. That dream never survived recruitment into Baroque Works, where he was handed a power that's its exact opposite: the Bomu Bomu no Mi, which turns any part of his body explosive — arms, breath, mucus, even a cough. The former bounty hunter turned agent Mr. 5 no longer fights fires; he sets off detonations instead.

On Little Garden, that power serves a negotiation between agents rather than an official mission. Already beaten alongside Miss Valentine back at Whisky Peak, Gem runs into Mr. 3 by chance and gets from him a deal more urgent than an order: help get rid of the giants Dorry and Brogy, who are wrecking Mr. 3's own plan, in exchange for a word to Mr. 0 sparing them the execution their earlier failure had earned. Gem quietly slips poison into Brogy's drink before the daily duel against Dorry — the same trick that, elsewhere on this site, let Baroque Works achieve in a day what a century of fair fighting never settled. The mission still fails to save him: Luffy steps in and beats Gem, who never gets the chance to collect what he was actually negotiating for, his own survival.

What remains of his time in the story sits in that unresolved contrast: a man whose dream job was putting out fires, turned into one of a criminal organization's most reliable bomb-makers, ready to poison a giant to buy back his own life rather than for money. The 10 million berries of his Marine bounty, unchanged since Alabasta, sanction that second career — the first one never got the chance to happen.
