Brogy’s Bounty at 100 million Berries

One poster, two men. Brogy and Dorry share the same wanted notice, the same picture and the same amount, and Galdino made a point of noting that the reward is collectable on each of them — two hundred million for the pair.

The detail turns cruel the moment it is placed against their own history. These two gave a century to establishing which of them was worth more than the other. They fought in the same spot every day, from one eruption of the volcano to the next, wounded each other, healed, saluted, and never got an answer. The only outside authority ever to rule on the question had delivered its verdict before the duel even began, on a sheet of paper with both their faces on it, and the verdict was a dead heat.

Baroque Works had not come for them. Galdino was under orders to kill the Straw Hats and the princess they were carrying; the giants were the consolation prize he dangled in front of two colleagues in disgrace to keep them alive. He admitted outright that none of them could win a fight against either giant.

So he went after a duellist rather than the duel. A bomb slipped into the rum Dorry was drinking, then wax on the ground to make him lose his footing: Brogy won, roared his victory for the first time in a hundred years, and then Galdino came over to explain whose work the result had been. The joy ended there.

The question a hundred years of fighting never settled had therefore been in writing all along, and the answer was a tie. There was something worth fighting over in that, rather than in two Sea Kings and a little girl's curiosity.
