CONFIDENTIAL

This amount is printed on a man who is also a place. The Castle-Castle Fruit turns Capone Bege's body into a habitable fortress: his crew lives inside him along with the cannons, the horses and the walls, and comes out through his chest at a moment of his choosing. Nothing he takes on the outside shakes them within, either. Only the duplicate of Bege standing in the hall absorbs what his real body absorbs.

The career that came before it fits into a single method. In the West Blue, Bege was one of the heads of the Five Families of the West, and he built his name by going straight for rival bosses. He took neither their territory nor their men: money, valuables, and then he stepped back to watch the succession war he had just opened. Jinbe puts it without flattery. He slaughtered the leaders of powerful organisations, left their subordinates alive, and turned vicious only on the ones who came back for revenge. He collected enough enemies that way for the fruit to serve as permanent shelter, until dominance on land simply bored him. His subordinates became a crew, the Fire Tank Pirates, and the method survived the move to sea: famous captains, crews untouched.

Hence a modest figure, among the lowest of the eleven names gathered at Sabaody, on a man whose reputation was already made across the West Blue before he ever set sail. Beheading an organisation without touching the rank and file leaves no accusers behind. It leaves houses without heads, and nobody to tell the story.

None of which makes him patient. He insists that people present themselves clean before him, enemies included, injures his own men over rudeness, and decapitates animals for entertainment. This is not a captain who raids. It is a boss who never wanted to rule anything, only to see the rulers fall, and to stay seated while they did.
