CONFIDENTIAL

Eleven names came off Sabaody Archipelago carrying the Supernova label: eleven rookies who had crossed a hundred million before entering the New World. Between them they came from nine crews — nine captains, and two men who commanded nothing at all. Zoro and Killer were the exceptions, two first mates listed among leaders because the numbers left the Marines no choice.

The 120 million came out of Enies Lobby, where Zoro dismantled Kaku, one of CP9's two best agents, in a duel nobody was calling in advance. His figure doubled. His captain's tripled. The ratio the World Government would apply to this crew for years is set right here: the captain takes the headline price, everyone else is cast in support.

It's also the bounty Zoro was carrying at Thriller Bark a few weeks later, when he volunteered to absorb every injury Luffy had taken from Bartholomew Kuma. The only witness was the man inflicting it. Sanji, knocked out by Zoro to stop him offering himself instead, found him standing in a pool of blood once it was over, and was told that nothing had happened. Kuma did report Thriller Bark to the World Government, but the defeat of a Warlord was kept quiet, and not one bounty on the crew moved.

That is what a bounty looks like from below. Zoro spent two years labelled a Supernova for beating a government agent, and received precisely nothing for the night he nearly died in someone else's place.

The two years that followed did not move the number either. He spent them on Kuraigana, training under the world's greatest swordsman, who agreed to teach him after humiliating him in public. A Supernova apprenticed to a Warlord, and still posted at 120 million when he walked back into Sabaody.
