Gambia’s Bounty at 67,000,000 Berries

Two missing front teeth, a neatly trimmed beehive haircut, jaguar-spot tattoos running up both arms and a cross inked on his chest — Gambia looks more like a bar's second-string enforcer than a Corrida Colosseum contender. Yet it's under that name that the Barto Club, Bartolomeo's crew, enters him in the Dressrosa tournament, chasing a goal that isn't his own: bringing back the Mera Mera no Mi for Luffy, whom the whole club has appointed itself to serve unasked.

The Barto Club numbers fifty-six members, all recruited on one single criterion: worshipping Luffy the way one worships an idol, to the point of naming their own ship Going Luffy-senpai. Gambia is no exception to that collective cult, but his actual use to the crew lies elsewhere.

That real function runs less through combat than through the den den mushi line. He's the one who keeps contact with Granny, the Barto Club's elder and its only reliable source of navigation, while the others go looking for trouble. Come Block B of the tournament, though, he has to fight like everyone else — and falls in record time to Vice Admiral Maynard, with no source recording a single detail of the exchange.

What survives of that duel is its aftermath: hearing of his man's lightning defeat, Bartolomeo storms Maynard and beats him senseless in front of the stands, a scene that ends up circulating under Bartolomeo's own name rather than Gambia's. The 67 million bounty thus names a fighter whose entire public record amounts to one round lost so fast that someone else inherited the revenge for it.
