The Vodka Kingdom paid for its World Government membership by raiding its neighbours, and its strongest soldier at ten years old was Kaido. At thirteen he started asking how that arrangement actually worked, and the king, unsure what else to do with him, sold him to the Marines in exchange for the right to attend the next Levely.

He went over the side of the battleship before it docked. This amount was issued immediately afterwards, which makes it close to unique in the registry. It does not answer a raid, a boarding or a killing. It answers an escape, and the insult done to a diplomatic transaction. On the day it was posted, Kaido captained nothing and owned nothing.

What he then did with it is stranger still. With no crew, no ship and no money, he let the Marines take him again and again, not as a tactic but as a meal plan, eating his fill aboard the warships and leaving once he had finished. For a few years the poster worked as a standing dinner reservation, and the higher the figure climbed, the better provisioned the vessels sent to collect him.

By fifteen he was on Hachinosu, putting down established pirates in large enough numbers that Edward Newgate came in person to recruit him for the Rocks Pirates. Everything the world remembers about him starts there. This figure belongs to the boy before it, and to the only stretch of his life in which being wanted was useful to him.
