Monkey D Luffy’s Bounty at 100 million Berries

The official version says Captain Smoker brought Crocodile in at Alabasta. That's what the Marines announced, that's what earned Smoker a promotion he never stopped resenting, and it isn't true.

The World Government didn't have many options. Conceding that a seventeen-year-old rookie had dismantled a sitting Warlord meant conceding, in public, that the Seven Warlords system — seven criminals pardoned in exchange for loyalty — rested on men a nobody could beat. So the announcement lied.

The bounty didn't. It more than tripled in a single move, from 30 to 100 million, and that jump is where the suppressed version of events shows through. The Government prices on paper what it refuses to concede out loud. Zoro got his first poster in the same batch at 60 million, and the crew stopped being an East Blue curiosity and became a target.

Crossing a hundred million also changes what you are outside the institutions. It's the threshold at which the underworld starts paying attention. At Mock Town a few months later, Bellamy and his 55 million were laughing at a man already worth double — a miscalculation that took him a while to fully appreciate. Further off, in the shadows, Donquixote Doflamingo had started following the name.

Crocodile's vacated Warlord seat was eventually filled too. It went to Marshall D. Teach.

Alabasta never got a public thank-you either. Officially, the rescue of the kingdom went down as Marine work.
