Nico Robin’s Bounty at 79,000,000 Berries

Nico Robin was eight years old when the World Government printed her face on a wanted poster. She remains the youngest subject anywhere in the register.

The figure was not arbitrary: 79 million, precisely the amount that had appeared on her mother's bounty. Nico Olvia died at Ohara inside the burning Tree of Knowledge, alongside the other scholars, defending the library they had spent their lives reading; she had put her daughter out of reach before going back in. The daughter inherited the manhunt and the rate on the same day. Nobody thought it worth adjusting downward for age, and there was no reason to — it was not the child being priced.

What the bounty targets is a skill. Robin could read Poneglyphs, the blocks recording the Void Century, the hundred years the World Government struck out of official history. Ohara was erased by a Buster Call for exactly that reason, and Robin is the only person who walked away from it. Her crime, at eight, was knowing how to decipher a script.

The following twenty years all follow from that document. No crew kept her longer than a few months, most of them tried to sell her, and she learned to betray before she could be betrayed. A wanted poster issued against a child does not manufacture a criminal. It manufactures someone who never had the opportunity to trust anyone.

There is one consequence the World Government failed to anticipate. By printing that amount, it created the only document in existence confirming that Olvia's daughter had survived the Buster Call. For two decades, the poster was the official proof that Ohara had not been entirely erased.
