Jinbe’s Bounty at 76,000,000 Berries

It's worth being precise about what the World Government priced here. Jinbe received his first bounty as a member of the Sun Pirates, the crew Fisher Tiger founded after storming Mary Geoise and freeing the slaves held there. That was not a raid for plunder. It was a mass liberation, and the only operation of its scale ever carried out against the Holy Land.

What no poster records is that the Sun Pirates operated under an absolute rule: never kill a human being. Fisher Tiger imposed it so that liberation would not curdle into revenge. The sun tattoo came out of the same intelligence: Tiger burned it onto every man aboard, including those who had never been slaves, so that it covered the hoof of the Soaring Dragon — the iron brand with which Celestial Dragons mark their property — and left the Marines unable to tell which of his crew had walked out of Mary Geoise and which had not. Seventy-six million, then, for a pirate in a crew that refused to draw blood.

The bounty says something simple about the system that produced it. The World Government does not price violence. It prices disobedience. Freeing slaves costs more than owning them.

Fisher Tiger died soon afterwards, shot by Marines. He did not have to. His crew had found a pack of human blood aboard and Aladine was ready to transfuse it; Tiger refused, unable to live on the blood of the people who had made him a slave. His own bounty stood at 230 million.

His dying request was that Fish-Man Island be told none of it — not his years in chains, not his crew's hatred of humans — so that the cycle would stop with him. Jinbe inherited the crew, the secret, and an instruction he spent the rest of his life keeping.
