Vinsmoke Sanji’s Bounty at 77,000,000 Berries

Sanji's poster carries no photograph. It carries a drawing — a rough sketch, produced for want of a usable shot, that looks almost nothing like him. Of every wanted notice issued against this crew, it is the only document useless for identifying its subject.

The story would be purely comic if it hadn't wrecked someone else's life. A man named Duval had the misfortune of matching the sketch feature for feature. For two years he was hunted, ambushed and beaten by bounty hunters and Marines convinced they had Black Leg Sanji cornered. By the time the mistake was cleared up he had assembled an armed gang and built an entire career on the grudge. No other bounty in this register has generated that kind of collateral damage.

The figure itself belongs to Enies Lobby. Seventy-seven million for a cook who had just put down Jabra, one of CP9's agents, and survived the same day as everyone else on the ship.

There is one more thing buried in the number, and nobody put it there deliberately. This first bounty came in seventeen million above the first one Zoro received. The World Government was not settling any rivalry — it was pricing a man whose face it could not even draw. The ranking landed regardless, and it landed on the kitchen's side.

The sketch, meanwhile, survived two full years. Only the reissue that followed Dressrosa gave the Marines an accurate face — and gave Duval, by then an ally of the crew, relief from being mistaken for a man he had never met.
