Bellamy’s Bounty at 55,000,000 Berries

Mock Town is a small port on Jaya where pirates stop to drink, and Bellamy was the biggest name in it. That is the exact measure of this amount: enough to own a street, and no further. He spent it humiliating an old man looking for a city of gold and a boy who refused to raise a hand against him.

The episode outlived everything else in his file because Luffy did not fight. He let Bellamy hit him, got up, and walked out without comment. What was meant to be a demonstration of strength became the scene that defines its author in the negative: the man who laughs at other people's dreams and gets nothing back for it.

The conclusion came from his own side. Bellamy had modelled his entire identity on Doflamingo, borrowing his laugh and repeating his words. When he came back empty-handed, Doflamingo shot him through the head in front of his own men, for a purely accounting reason. He had not brought in what was expected.

Fifty-five million was worth something in Mock Town. It was worth nothing at all at the table where he wanted a seat, and this entry is the last one issued while he still believed otherwise. The file is not negligible on its own terms, either. The Spring-Spring Fruit turned his legs into springs and gave him a mobility few opponents at that stage of the Grand Line knew how to handle, and his crew held the town outright. The valuation was not wrong. The scale he was measuring it against was.
