CONFIDENTIAL

The bonnet, the pacifier, the star-print diaper: Senor Pink fights dressed as an infant, and it is not a throwaway gag. His wife, Russian, loved babies more than anything; their son Gimlet died young, and Pink spent years lying to her about his life as an outlaw so she would never stop loving him. When she learned the truth, she fled — and a landslide left her in a permanent coma. The baby costume is the one thing that still made her smile before that, and he has never taken it off since. Nobody in the Family risks mocking it twice: the getup never stops him from fighting with complete seriousness, and no other officer in the crew fights under a disguise built entirely out of grief rather than tactics.

Franky takes him on at Dressrosa in a fight that stretches across several episodes, iron fists against sheer bulk. Pink holds his ground for a long stretch, until a vision of Russian and Gimlet surfaces mid-combat and he collapses in tears before the finishing blow even lands. Franky, rather than finishing off a man already down, wipes his face clean before walking away.

Nothing about the fight changes his situation: Russian stays comatose, Gimlet stays dead. Fifty-eight million berries for a man whose only documented motive across all of Dressrosa was never Doflamingo, but a family he can no longer reach or save — and still carries, literally, strapped to his own back.
