Lao G’s Bounty at 61 million Berries

Seventy years old, five foot two: Lao G is one of three Donquixote Family officers without a Devil Fruit, alongside Dellinger and Vergo, and the only one of the Diamante Army's four officers fighting with neither a power nor fish-man blood. What he has instead is Jio-Ken, a martial art that turns the ailments of age into attacks in their own right, from eye strain and knotted shoulders to aching joints, and whose ultimate technique uses qigong to release, all at once, the vitality of his youth he has kept in store. The more pain his body has known, he says, the harder he hits.

No scene dates his 61,000,000 berries. He was already aboard at fifty-four when ten-year-old Law joined a crew that looted, struck deals and collected bounties on its way to the Grand Line; he taught the boy hand-to-hand combat, and once took a bazooka to a Marine ship. That era may well be what the figure prices, a figure Doflamingo's Warlord seat later kept out of reach.

Dressrosa shows what a man at that price can do. Glasses on, he bats away Kabu, a Tontatta, in a fraction of a second; he drops the Thunder Soldier in the palace lift; he brings down Chinjao, whose old bounty ran to 542,000,000, though Chinjao was worn down by Luffy and busy arguing with his grandson. That grandson, twenty-eight-year-old Sai, whose known bounty is 210,000,000, had just been named Don of the Happo Navy by the old man. His Haki-coated kick splits the hill, and Lao G falls into the crack apologizing to his young master.
