Chinjao’s Bounty at 542 million Berries

In his golden age as a pirate, Chinjao was a rival to both Garp and Roger, and the twelfth head of the Happo Navy, the fleet of the Chinjao family from Kano Country in West Blue. Nothing, people said, could match the hardness of his pointed head. It was also the key to a treasure his clan had piled up over centuries beneath a continent of ice, which he alone could split with a headbutt.

Thirty years ago Garp, then a vice admiral, ended years of clashes between them. He flattened eight mountains training for that last fight, and his Haki-charged fist met Chinjao's Haki-charged head, which collapsed like a telescope. Chinjao lost his point, his way to the treasure and his career at a stroke: he left piracy behind.

The 542 million is that pirate's bounty. At the Corrida Colosseum, spectators recall that he was once worth more than 500 million; the exact sum comes from a Vivre Card, which places it in his heyday. The story never says when it was set, but everything suggests it predates Dressrosa by a long way.

At 78 the old man is still fearsome. In Block C he knocks Ideo out in one blow, and Cavendish's sword Durandal cannot pierce his skull. In the final, Luffy, wanted for 400 million at the time, beats him with a Thor Elephant Gun, a giant Haki-coated fist that restores his point; Chinjao splits the arena simply by falling onto it. He drops his grudge against Garp and his family on the spot. Later, a kick from his grandson Sai bends his head, and Chinjao hands him the title of Don, judging him able to open the ice again.
