Trafalgar D Water Law’s Bounty at 500,000,000 Berries

Sixty million. That is what Dressrosa was worth to Law, the smallest increase of his entire career, for the only objective he ever had.

The World Government's arithmetic is cold and internally consistent. At Dressrosa, Law is an accessory: the affair reads as a Straw Hat operation, run alongside an ally who had stopped being a Warlord back on Green Bit. What the amount pays for is participation. Never intent.

Intent was the whole thing. Law had been holding the promise he made over Rosinante's body for thirteen years. Exactly when he assembled the plan that came out of it, take Caesar Clown, cut Doflamingo off from the SMILE trade, leave him exposed to Kaido, the series never says. The plan failed at almost every stage. Law was beaten, shot three times with a flintlock in front of the Corrida Colosseum, chained in Seastone inside the palace, and had his right arm cut off, and the man who put Doflamingo on the ground was Luffy. He still got what he came for: the Donquixote Family dismantled, and Rosinante's name finally out of the silence.

So the 500 million is the bounty of a man who has finished. His entire adult life fitted inside one trajectory, and the trajectory ends here. What follows, Zou, Whole Cake, Wano, belongs to somebody else: a captain with no remaining reason to die, working out what to do with the time left over.

There is a reason the figure does not matter. Sengoku, who had raised Rosinante as a son, came and told him so to his face straight afterwards: do not let yourself be chained by a debt you invented, because it cheapens what the man actually did. That the World Government valued the operation at sixty million is almost a relief, proof it understood nothing of what had just happened.
