CONFIDENTIAL

For years, Roronoa Zoro made his living off other people's bounties. The Pirate Hunter tracked wanted men across East Blue and turned them in for cash — it was the only way the Marines knew him before he ever boarded Luffy's ship. His first wanted poster therefore inverts an entire career: the man who collected bounties became one.

The trigger was Alabasta, and specifically Daz Bonez, Baroque Works' Mr. 1 — an opponent whose entire body could turn to blade, and the first Zoro could only beat by learning, mid-fight, how to cut steel. The detail worth savouring: Daz Bonez was posted at 75 million. The World Government priced the winner fifteen million below the loser.

That isn't an oversight, it's a methodology. The Marines assess captains, organisations, structured threats. A first mate, however dangerous, enters the register as an appendage of his captain — and Zoro had just joined a crew whose leader cleared a hundred million on the same day.

The poster had a private audience as well. Johnny and Yosaku hunted bounties alongside Zoro before that partnership broke up, and they sailed with the Straw Hats as far as the fall of Arlong Park. The third man from their old outfit was now printed on the sheets they sorted through each morning. Both eventually put the swords away and took up fishing off the Conomi Islands.

Worth noting what the file actually holds: no theft of any kind. Cabaji of the Buggy Pirates, Hatchan of Arlong's crew, an entire town dressed up as a welcoming committee at Whisky Peak, then Daz Bonez. Nearly all of them belonged to organisations the Marines were chasing already. What the World Government priced here was not loot. It was membership.
