Laffitte’s Bounty at 42,200,000 Berries

Before he was a pirate, Laffitte carried a badge: a lawman in the West Blue, dismissed for using force that went past what even his own department would tolerate. The Government nicknamed him the Demon Sheriff, a nod to that past rather than to any fight he's actually been seen winning. Tall, thin, red-tinted lips, gold hoop earrings, black tap-dancing shoes: his silhouette remains, to this day, better documented than his abilities. The Devil Fruit he carries has never received an official name, the only case among the crew's ten Titanic Captains; it turns his arms into wings, and it has been shown in use exactly once, during the Level 6 breakout at Impel Down.

Combat, though, isn't where he does his captain the most good. At Mary Geoise, before Marineford ever happened, Laffitte, captain of the fleet's fifth ship and chief of staff, argues Blackbeard's case to the World Government for the Warlord seat Crocodile had just left empty. The crew already has a sniper, a wrestler, a doctor; he negotiates. The title he secured changed the entire crew's legal standing in one stroke, before a single blow had been struck at Marineford.

His bounty, 42.2 million, still sits well below what Doc Q or Van Augur carry, his companions from those first days at Jaya. The record seems built to price landed punches, not signatures obtained at Mary Geoise, and yet that signature is what actually hurt the World Government most.
