Jesus Burgess’s Bounty at 20 million Berries

Champion is his epithet, not an award handed to him by anyone: the story never says where the title belt he wears at all times came from, or what he won to get it. What it does show needs no record. In Mock Town he climbs onto a roof and shouts for a decent opponent, a man from Roshio's crew already flat at his feet. On Banaro Island he tears an entire building out of its foundations and throws it across town at Portgas D. Ace, who burns it out of the air.

The 20 million dates from that stretch, and it is the lowest figure of the five founders. That same crew left Mock Town to go hunt a 100 million poster, Luffy's. At that point Burgess has no Devil Fruit at all: he is a wrestler and the crew's helmsman, working with his arms alone, and that holds true for years. The Riki Riki no Mi comes much later, after Dressrosa, where he had lost the Mera Mera no Mi to Sabo and then gone at Luffy with a concealed dagger to take the Gomu Gomu no Mi off him. These days he lifts mountains and throws them.

The best turn he ever did his captain, though, he did half dead and lifting nothing. Burned at point-blank range by Sabo's Fire Fist and left where he fell, he stows away on a Revolutionary Army ship and wakes up at Baltigo: the headquarters the entire world had failed to find. He calls Laffitte, gives the position, asks for Doc Q for his wounds and for the whole crew for the island. Baltigo was leveled. None of that twenty million pays for that.
