Gladius’s Bounty at 31,000,000 Berries

It is an easy mix-up and a wrong one: Gladius's Pamu Pamu no Mi is not Mr. 5's Bomu Bomu no Mi. Mr. 5 turns his own body into a bomb; Gladius makes any inanimate object he touches swell and burst — weapons, walls, and on occasion his own body, when the situation calls for it. As head of the Diamante Army, he commanded the troops thrown at the Dressrosa uprising years before Luffy ever set foot on the island.

Against Bartolomeo, he picks that last option, swelling himself into a detonating sphere. Bartolomeo traps him inside a Barrier Bulls dome first: the Bari Bari no Mi's invisible wall contains the blast, and Gladius ends up absorbing the shockwave he just triggered himself.

Before that fight, he is fooled in a more embarrassing way. Kanjuro's Fuku Fuku no Mi disguises Kin'emon as Doflamingo, and a single casual question is enough to make Gladius hand over Kanjuro's own hiding spot — to the very man he thinks he is reporting to. He never sees the trick coming, and hands over the exact information his own captain needed most, to a face wearing that captain's likeness rather than his authority.

Thirty-one million berries for an officer whose signature power, in the two best-documented scenes of his career, only ever turns on him: once in the hands of a helmsman from a rival crew, once in the hands of an impostor wearing his own boss's face.
