Bartolomeo became a fan of Luffy before ever exchanging a word with him. A former East Blue mob boss, he watched, along with hundreds of other bystanders at Loguetown, a kid escape his own execution in a crack of thunder — and from that day on, built an entire pirate career around it. Years later, when he finally meets Luffy in person at the Corrida Colosseum in Dressrosa, he is one fight away from winning the Mera Mera no Mi, in the tournament final. He walks away from it on the spot rather than fight his idol.

His fruit, the Bari Bari no Mi, produces barriers that nothing in this dataset has ever broken through head-on — not Bellamy's fist, not Dellinger's blades, not Elizabello II's King Punch, a blow strong enough on its own to demolish a fortress. It's that capability, more than the loyalty behind it, that the Government priced at 200,000,000 berries: a defense never once pierced in close combat, regardless of the cause Bartolomeo chooses to put it toward.

That cause eventually merged with Luffy's own.
