Monkey D Luffy’s Bounty at 30,000,000 Berries

Luffy's first wanted poster isn't a mugshot. It's a party photo. A Marine photographer took it at Cocoyasi while the village was still celebrating Arlong's defeat, and the shot went to print exactly as it was: Luffy grinning, hat pushed back, one hand raised — with the back of Usopp's head tucked in right behind his, a detail Usopp has never stopped bringing up.

The number was less amusing for the East Blue Marines. Thirty million was more than any single pirate Luffy had just taken apart. Arlong topped out at 20 million, Captain Kuro at 16, Buggy at 15. Even Don Krieg, the most feared man in the calmest sea in the world, only reached 17. East Blue had never produced a figure like that in one go, least of all for a seventeen-year-old nobody had heard of six months earlier.

That's what the first bounty actually records. Not a specific crime — an anomaly. The World Government had just worked out that a five-person crew had dismantled five established criminal operations back to back, one of which had been bleeding entire villages dry with a Marine officer on the payroll.

The consequences arrived immediately, and none of them were convenient. From Loguetown onward, Luffy stopped travelling anonymously. Bounty hunters knew his face, Buggy and Alvida learned he was alive, and the Marines finally had a name to attach to the straw hat.
