Pedro’s Bounty at 382,000,000 Berries

The title of Guardian of the Whale Forest, on Zou, passes down among the toughest minks, generation after generation; Pedro carried it alone for years before setting it aside, never once telling whoever had appointed him what mission he was actually leaving to pursue. He joins the Straw Hats for exactly one purpose: stealing the photographic copy of the Road Poneglyph that Big Mom kept hidden on Whole Cake Island. The first attempt fails — caught alongside his partner Zepo, he watches the Emperor personally execute Zepo on the spot. Pedro survives only because Pekoms pleads for his life, a debt Pedro repays by tearing out one of his own eyes, a pledge that he will one day return to Zou carrying the new dawn with him.

He keeps that promise, in part. Chased by Big Mom's fleet during the Sunny's escape, Pedro alone triggers the explosive he had smuggled aboard to buy the ship its getaway, badly wounding Charlotte Perospero and dying instantly. Carrot, the young mink he had mentored, turns her grief into a rampage until Nami holds her back — the one scene in the whole dataset where a single death directly triggers another character's near-collapse.

His bounty is now closed, fixed at 382 million: the only figure ever attached to his name was set after his death, for a man who never once fought for a berry of his own. The Government still prices a guardian that no island can ever call home again.
