Bounty of Captain John – credible but non-canon

Captain John belongs to the Rocks members who made a name for themselves: Sengoku lists him among Rocks D. Xebec's crew alongside Whitebeard, Big Mom and Kaido. He joined about 44 years ago, carrying a power another pirate would later make his trademark, the Magnet-Magnet Fruit.

At God Valley he used it to pull every scrap of metal on the island towards himself, treasure included, convinced that Shakky would go to whoever held the most. By Ganzui's estimate every chest was worth at least a billion berries. Ganzui blasted him to stop him making off with the lot; John survived and left with part of the haul.

Once captain of his own crew, he built up a treasure that remains among the most famous in the world, and kept its location to himself. His men mutinied and stabbed him in the stomach, leaving two swords in the wound; the hiding place passed into legend. His power followed the usual rule of Devil Fruits and was reborn elsewhere after his death, ending up with Eustass Kid.

His body ended up on Thriller Bark. Gecko Moria turned it into one of his Zombie Generals, slow and permanently drunk, liquor leaking from the holes in his belly, to the point that Absalom scolded him for shaming the feared pirate he had been in life. His armband, which doubles as the treasure map, went from Moria's spoils to Luffy, then to Buggy in Impel Down, a Buggy who had already been chasing that treasure for some time.

Did such a man carry a bounty? The story says neither yes nor no. For a Rocks pirate with a known name, a ship of his own and a Devil Fruit of that calibre, one would hardly be out of place.
