    CONFIDENTIAL

Nami had just dropped a lightning bolt on the army chasing Luffy. Galette, who had not seen it coming, wrapped her in butter and pinned her for good, and the navigator left for Sweet City as a prisoner. The Bata Bata no Mi makes nobody slip: her butter is adhesive, built to hold an opponent rather than to move one.

She uses it again at the tightest moment of the arc. During the retreat that follows the failed hit on Big Mom, it is Galette's butter that pins Luffy, Sanji and Reiju to the ground, with Smoothie and Daifuku doing the rest — and it takes the Tamatebako detonating under the Whole Cake Chateau to get them loose. Eighteenth daughter, older twin of Poire, she is Minister of Butter over Margarine Island and holds authority over the crew's lower ranks.

She has also had a close look at what this household costs. She was there with Opera and Mont-d'Or when their mother, mid-craving, pulled forty years of life out of their brother Moscato over a croquembouche; all three begged, none of it worked, and it was Galette who then ordered the soldiers to carry the body away. Two days later the same three stood over Cracker, who had come flying back into Sweet City.

Whether she is wanted, the story does not say, and nothing in it says otherwise: she is one of the children Oda never had to put a number on. That does not make her a nobody. Mont-d'Or, beside her in both of those scenes, is posted at 120,000,000; Cracker, whose defeat put her in the field, at 860,000,000. What she does — taking a navigator out of a fight, pinning three opponents, governing an island — is priced elsewhere in the very same crew.
