CONFIDENTIAL

For years, Charlotte Katakuri's name circulated across the Grand Line attached to a number, 1,057,000,000 berries, one of the highest ever posted for an active captain, without a single wanted poster ever showing his full face. Katakuri always eats alone, back turned, a scarf pulled up over his mouth: as a child, his sister Brulee was hurt defending him against mockery over his teeth and scars, and he decided that day that no one would ever laugh at his face in front of his family again.

The fight that finally exposed that face wasn't even necessary for his own survival. Katakuri takes on Luffy at Cacao Island when he could easily have ignored him, dominates most of the fight thanks to his Mochi-Mochi powers and an Observation Haki sharp enough to predict every attack in advance, then, in the final seconds, takes a hit to the mouth that reveals, against his own will, exactly what his bounty figure had never once shown the public.

A son of Big Mom, Katakuri holds the title of Chief Sweet Commander, ranked above his own siblings Cracker and Smoothie, a position his defeat against Luffy never actually threatened. He remains active in the New World after his mother's alliance with Kaido collapsed for good. The registry eventually put a face to the number; it never managed to put a single word to what that face had spent an entire lifetime protecting.
