Bounty of Chess – non-wanted character

Chess holds the pen of Wapol's kingdom: every law, every royal decree passes through him before it exists officially. A man who writes an entire people's legal existence into being has, in return, absolutely none of his own to claim in front of anyone — not even in front of his own king, who eventually eats him.

Because that is exactly what happens: during the failed attempt to retake Drum Island, Wapol swallows him along with Kuromarimo and fuses the two men, through the Baku Baku no Mi, into a single hybrid combat form. Chess loses even the shape he had left, absorbed by the very man whose orders he had been recording for years. Kuromarimo, fused into that same body, at least walks into it carrying a weapon of his own; Chess brings nothing but a title that stops meaning anything the moment two men become one.

There's no crime sheet here, no piracy file: Chess never left the administrative service of a kingdom that, tyrant on the throne aside, stayed a recognized member state, not a pirate organization by the World Government's own definition. Writing down laws, even bad ones, has never once been grounds for a bounty anywhere else in this registry.

What becomes of him after Wapol's defeat against Chopper is confirmed by no source: the fusion erased him from the story at the exact moment his king later found a throne elsewhere, with nothing to say whether Chess followed him into that second life away from Drum Island.
