Hammond opens with a crude trap: a net thrown over the nearest Straw Hats, torn apart by a single Gum-Gum Jet Pistol from Luffy before it can even close. What sets this dagger-toothed eel Fish-Man apart from the rest of Hody Jones's crew is the comeback he stages next: he returns to the fight riding a cart pulled by chained human slaves, a miniature arsenal modeled, though he never calls it that, on the World Nobles' own. Unlike the rest of the crew, he approaches the fight like an accountant rather than a warrior, keeping a running list of grievances and demanded compensation from the Straw Hats, an almost bureaucratic habit in a crew that otherwise runs on raw intimidation.

Jinbe, watching from the sidelines, refuses to let that spectacle play out unanswered and pushes Nico Robin to free the slaves before the fight even resumes. She does, then ends the duel with a single move: splitting into duplicates through the Hana Hana no Mi, she snaps Hammond's spine with the W Backbreaker hold, despite a Fish-Man's strength that no human underwater could ever match.
