    CONFIDENTIAL

Ashura Doji never betrayed the Red Scabbards — he simply drifted away from them. As the bandit Shutenmaru, leader of the thieves on Mount Atama, he is defeated and then spared by Kozuki Oden, and grows loyal to him out of gratitude rather than any oath. Wielding a kanabo club nearly as tall as he is, he fights with the blunt brutality of a gang boss rather than the polished technique of the other Red Scabbards — a style he never abandons, even after swearing loyalty to a lord. When Oden dies, he doesn't join a plot; he goes back to banditry alone, undone by a grief he has no other way to carry.

He only reenters the story at the death of Tonoyasu, the disguised daimyo who had shielded Ebisu Town — a second loss that finally convinces him to stand with his old companions again, twenty years after walking out on them without a word.

His death, in chapter 1008, comes down to a reflex nobody else has. On Onigashima, a fake Kozuki Oden appears before the assembled Red Scabbards — an ink copy made by the traitor Kanjuro, rigged with explosives. Ashura Doji alone notices in time that the figure isn't bleeding; he grabs it, leaps clear of the room, and dies in the blast he has just carried away from his sworn brothers.

Wano's closed borders never passed his file to anyone outside them; the only administrative trace he ever leaves is the bandit's name he wore out of shame, never the one he was born with.
