Eustass Kid’s Bounty at 470,000,000 Berries

An arm is missing from every picture drawn after this one, and the man who took it is not the one people assume. Kid did go after Shanks during the two years the story had its back turned, but it was Benn Beckman, the Emperor's first mate, who took his left forearm off. Kid replaced it with a metal prosthetic wired into his own nervous system and went straight back for the same opponent.

These 470 million cover a stretch the reader barely saw. What is known of it amounts to three things: two of Big Mom's ships destroyed, enough that somebody went and reported it to her in person; a rival crew crucified because Kid judged them too weak to be sailing the New World; and one missing arm. The rest happened off the page.

Getting back to Shanks took numbers. He built an alliance with Scratchmen Apoo's On Air Pirates and Basil Hawkins's crew: 470, 350 and 320 million added together, barely over a billion, aimed at a man the Navy would later price on his own at more than four billion. The alliance never got near the red-haired Emperor. Kaido landed on it instead, literally: a jump from a sky island, ten thousand metres of fall, a man-shaped crater in the middle of nowhere, and three captains walking over to see what had made it. Apoo was already working for him, tasked with spotting promising pirates and delivering them. Hawkins folded and put on the Beasts Pirates' colours. Kid refused, was taken apart, and ended up breaking rock in the prison mine at Udon.

The real comment on this figure came much later, and from Kid himself. In that prison he overheard Caribou telling Luffy a false version of how he lost the arm, and cut in to set the record straight. Two years of his life had left a number and a rumour.
