Thatch’s Bounty at an unknown amount of Berries

Aboard Whitebeard's ship the rule is known to every man on deck: whoever finds a Devil Fruit has the right to eat it. Thatch, commander of the 4th division and the crew's head chef, came back from a raid with the Yami Yami no Mi in his hands. He chose not to eat it. That is what killed him.

There is only one of it. Marshall D. Teach had been after that particular fruit for a long time, and it was the reason he sailed under that flag at all. He killed Thatch, took it, and left the ship. Some time earlier, in a bar, Thatch had admitted he envied Ace's Mera Mera no Mi — a cook who dreams of flame — and Teach had suggested he kill Ace and take it. Thatch told him not to joke about that sort of thing, because he would never kill a crewmate.

What followed cost an entire crew. Ace went after the murderer alone, against Whitebeard's advice, and did not come back. Whitebeard took up the debt at Marineford and died there. A year after the war Marco led what was left of the fleet against the Blackbeard Pirates in the Payback War, lost it, and the crew dissolved. The murder of one division commander set off the end of an Emperor's crew.

His bounty is inferred from his rank; no source confirms it, and no figure has ever been shown to the reader. What is left of Thatch sits in what he was aboard instead: the first man to walk up to Ace when the crew brought him in as a prisoner, the one who pulled fights apart, the one who defended Teach by saying he was not bad at heart. The rule gave him that fruit. It only assumed that nobody on that ship would kill to take it off him.
