Thatch’s Bounty at an unknown amount of Berries

The name attached most often to Thatch isn't his own — it's the name of the man who killed him. As commander of the Whitebeard Pirates' 4th Division, Thatch picked up the Yami Yami no Mi in the ship's hold, a fruit Teach had been hunting for more than twenty years without ever getting close to one. Teach struck him down to take it, deserted the crew that same night, and one act of betrayal closes two files at once: Thatch's career, and Teach's membership among the Whitebeard Pirates.

Thatch's murder has become one of the most-cited episodes in the whole story — the declared cause of the hunt for Ace, the origin of the Warlord seat Teach later bought with a severed head, the founding chapter of a future Emperor's rise. His own bounty amount, though, was never printed: Oda has not shown it, even as the scene of his death gets more pages than almost any other killing in the series. The man became, inside someone else's file, the most thoroughly documented line he never got in his own.

That imbalance may say something about the place Thatch actually held while alive: cheerful, generous at the table, a commander with no particular hunger to build a name past his own division. It took a stroke of luck — a fruit picked up in a cargo hold, not stolen, not sought after — to make him, after death, the most famous casualty of the New World before Marineford ever happened.
